How To Set Up DirectConnect

This Direct Connect Tutorial will speed up your connection drastically if you have previously logged in through GameSpy.



Step 1.
First, open your NWN directory (usually this means going through My Computer --> Local Disk C: --> Neverwinter Nights --> NWN) and right click the icon titled nwmain.exe. Right click this, drag it to your desktop, release it, and select "Create Shortcut Here".

Step 2.
After the shortcut is created created, right click it and select "Properties".

Step 3.
When the box comes up there is a field called Target.

Normally, it reads: C:\NeverwinterNights\NWN\nwmain.exe or whatever the path was you installed it to.

Step 4.
Next, click inside that field and move the cursor right past the nwmain.exe then add a space and type +connect 92.232.66.24:5121

Step 5.
The target path will now read something like this (though the beginning path may vary depending on the allocation letter of your hard drive and which folders you installed NWN into):

C:\NeverwinterNights\NWN\nwmain.exe +connect 92.232.66.24:5121

(If you decide to Copy/Paste the above, make sure there is no space after the 5121 at the end. Otherwise, it won't work for you.)

Step 6.
After all looks as it should, select Apply. Now you're ready to roll. All you have to do from then on is double-click the shortcut and it will log you directly into the character selection screen.


Direct Connecting in this method nullifies GameSpy completely and allows you to log in even on those rare instances that GameSpy is down for whatever reason.

If everyone decided to log in this way, it would cut the lag by about 70% or so +/- 5% to 10% from various router and/or IP issues.
